love it
Excellent photos. Live view is awesome. Will have to get some hi-power lenses. Works great on my telescope. 2009-11-19

Not a bad starter DSLR
I owned a Nikon D40 and used it heavily for six months last year. I wanted to try Canon just to see what it was like. I'll compare to the D40 as I remember it:
Pros:
* Great image quality, low noise even at ISO 800, nice bokeh, sharp -- seems to me to be better image quality than the D40 (newer sensor and processor maybe?)
* Nice features the D40 doesn't have like exposure bracketing, white balance bracketing, sensor cleaning
* More physical buttons than the Nikon, so you can set e.g. ISO or white balance without going through menus
* More auto-focus points
* Feels really light weight
Cons:
* Menu system is fine, maybe better than Nikon's, but the controls just aren't as good as Nikon's. Especially as a left-hander, having almost all the buttons on the right felt so weird.
* Feels cheaper, not as good a grip, too smooth. The rough pattern feel that other cameras has is much nicer to grip.
* Noisier auto focus, sounds like grinding gears, it's awful
* Live view mode is way too hard to access, like Canon was embarrassed by it (but I don't use liveview anyway, so no big deal)
(I returned the camera and bought a Nikon D3000 on Amazon instead. The ergonomics was a huge issue for me.)
My suggestion is to go to a physical store, try out the cameras in your hands and with your eyes (viewfinder) to see which *feels* right, then buy on Amazon. :-)

Great entry level! With pro level capabilities
I just wanted to make a small review for the average Joe to read, mainly cause I know all the "camera guy" lingo and myself would rather just have a point black "Yes" or "No".
So in a word, "Yes". If you're thinking about grabbing this camera, do it, especially with the kit lens, it's a very nice lens for a kit anyway; you'll be able to do a lot with just that lens alone.
That's without touching in the camera, it does almost everything it's big brothers can do, with a lower price tag! So yes, buy it, use it, love it.
I do.

Rebel XS
Received the camera on time, it is a great camera and is easy to use. It has taken some great action shots and still shots. the only down fall is taking pictues in the dark. Even with the flash pics don't come out, a seperate flash stand fixture would be needed but how often do you take pictures is extreme low light. I also wish this was able to record vidoes. Other than that, this is a fantastic camera saved over 50 bucks going through Amazon, it has take some great shots and I highly recomend this camera to anyone. There are other web sites that were much cheaper but are scams. They try to sell you insurance and other items that are not needed Amazon is the way to go. The product is what it is and no false advertizments.

Great Beginner Camera
I just started getting into photography and wanted to get a good DSLR but i could not afford to spend over $500. I did a lot of research and came across this camera and no matter where i looked it has great reviews. This is a great camera i think for beginners and people who do this as a hobby like myself! the manual that comes with it is very useful. The lens that comes with the Kit it also great. I did some macro type photos and they came out great. The features are easy to use. I would defintely recommend this camera! 2009-11-06
