Won 5 photo of the day awards from Canon with this.
To date, 11/09, I have won 5 Photo of the Day awards from Canon. It is true that the image was important but I took them all with this camera. The absolute best quality camera I have ever owned, and I have owned quite a few. It is all in the lens, not the size of the megapixels. Remember that, that is the one most important thing about any camera and Canon makes some of the worlds best lens. For the money, I would put it up against any camera on the market today. And it surprised me how clear the video and sound is on this model. I have absolutely no problem recommending this model. I paid 129.00 for this and i guess they have replaced it with the a1100 because the price is now is much higher, i suppose it has been discontinued. But the a1100 is 129.00 and I would buy it. Looks to be the same but with more megapixels. 2009-11-27

Quite pleased with this camera
I had no idea this camera had over 800 reviews ... WHEW!
I'll keep it short and sweet.
It kicks the Kodak digital we used to have right in the butt.
I bought this as our second digital camera because I wanted more control over the settings.
I can use this camera inside WITHOUT flash (ISO1600 setting). No other camera in this class offers the ISO1600 setting.
I can turn the "shutter" sound and the beeps off. (very useful in theater shows that my husband performs in)
The picture quality is awesome.
It is lightweight and small enough to keep with me (shirt pocket, or purse).
The LCD screen is a nice size.
The image stabilization has ended my blurry photo tendency.
The flash takes forever to re-charge, and it eats batteries like breath mints - that's the worst of it.
I checked Amazon, CNet, NewEgg, and Consumer Reports. All research led here, and I am very satisfied with this camera.

Disappointed
The hard drive failed in a year. The camera cannot be found by computers, making uploading almost impossible. I also bought a replacement plan which made me to pay the shipping, unbelievable.

excellent camera
I bought this camera for a high school student (girl). It fits in most purses and is a good "on the go" camera to take good pics and easily upload to PC. 2009-11-19

Good starter digitial camera
I like this camera a lot. I have taken so many pictures and I am still learning and experimenting. I am new to digital and actually got this with a gift certificate. I would never go back to my 35mm now. I had several people tell me that Canon is an excellent lower end camera and I agree. The Powershot A590IS got great reviews on the tech sites on the internet. I especially like using the night feature. I got some great winter shots when it was snowing. Great pictures. If you are just starting or just want a great lower end camera, I would recommend this one. The Canon website has a lot of instructional information besides what comes with the camera. It has everything but the bag and I purchase that separately. I bought a Tamrac bag which I also highly recommend. 2009-11-18
