Poor Durability/Quality
Camera broke after only 5 months. Sent camera to canon repair shop who would not repair due to "water damage" which is next to impossible. Customer service nice enough, repair turn around took about 2 weeks, but poor outcome, refused to replace camera. Missed childrens b-day and 1st day of school, just isn't worth it, I would NOT recommend this camera, it is too sensitive!

Update 10/19/09- After speaking with Cannon, they sent me a new camera agreeing that there was minimal damage to cause it to stop working from pictures they took. (ask customer service for pictures of your damaged camera, should be available with your cameras id number!) I now a happy customer.

Great little portable camera
I do serious photography with a large Digital SLR and all the lenses. I wanted a small camera to carry for personally use when i didn't feel like lugging all my other gear with me. This camera fits the bill perfectly. There are certainly trade offs with low light performance and ability to control all the aspects of taking a photo, but that isn't what this camera is for anyway. Save youself some money and get this instead of getting the latest camera with the highest MP count. It seriously doesn't make a difference for what you are going to use this camera for anyway, and infact may hurt low light performance (more pixels packed into the same chip size generally equates to more image noise).

Personal favorite features
-Very light and sleak design
-Nice LCD screen
-Refined user interface
-Decent low light performance
-Optical stabilization (helps sometimes - but remember this just helps in holding the camera steady, not in increasing the shutter speed to catch a moving object in low light - like my always on the go daughter).
-Good quality video

Wish list
- Ability to turn the flash on/off in auto mode. This is probably my only gripe. I use it in auto most of the time, but you can't make it use the flash for fill lighting or motion stop unless you go to manual mode. I always have to flip back for my wife afterwards :-)
- better default compression on the video. This is a common problem for this camera segment. The video will take up a lot of space, and may need to be convereted/compressed before sending/uploading to blog/ etc. . .

not what I expected
I expected more of this product because of all perfect reviews. There is no manual focus, only lock focus function. Somethimes lock focus help, but sometimes you just need to set it by your experience. Now I'm more then sure that my old Canon A70 makes better images than this one.

Poor Reliability
I bought this camera to replace my old Kodak easy share. I was impressed with its features and overall photo quality but was disappointed when I got the "lens error" message less than one year after buying it. Canon did fix it, but less than six months after that I got the same lens error message leaving the camera totally useless.

Good deal, nice camera.
Bought for my daughter going off to college. You can spend more, but this does everything you need. Small but not too small. Nice quality video mode. Optical viewfinder useful in bright light. She likes the color swap function. I DON'T want more disk-space-consuming megapixels than this one has, for snap-shooting. I'm a Nikon SLR guy, but I prefer the Canon compacts...
