I look like a professional
I'm not a camera expert. But I have to say that this is one of the best cameras I have ever bought. The pictures were amazing. They were so clear and crisp. With my old camera the pictures never came out this good. Canon's face detection technology is AMAZING. Little boxes appear because the camera is focusing on something. It doesnt have to be a face, but it helps focus on an image, which was a great help for me.

Another great feature on this camera is the automatic exposure which helps get rid of blurry shots. My mother cannot take a clear picture to save her life. For the past 20 years she has taken blurry shots but when I gave her this camera none of the shots were blurry. I was very impressed.

It's a small camera so it easily slips into a pocket. I took it with me on my cruise and never had a problem with it. The camera also has a lot of nice features on it. I haven't figured them all out, but some include changing the color and cropping your images. The batter life is very good too.

I took a gamble on this camera. I bought it three days before I left for my cruise and it was the best purchase I have ever made. I highly recommend it for someone who wants a camera that takes great pictures.

Long shot-to-shot time; fill flash feature hard to find
This is a solid little camera that can provide excellent image quality under the right conditions. But it has two glaring deficiencies:

1. No fill flash option in auto mode. (There is a fill flash option in manual mode, but it's not easy for the casual user to find.) There's red-eye reduction, of course, and you can turn the flash off completely or let the camera decide when to fire it. But with the camera in auto mode, you can't tell it to fire the flash on every shot, regardless of what its sensor thinks. Major bummer when you want to photograph a backlit subject.

2. Shot-to-shot time is agonizingly slow, and focus time isn't especially speedy, either. This is a problem when, for example, you want to catch quick snaps of the animals you see on Disney World's Kilimanjaro Safaris. Ask me how I know.

I'm sure this is a fine camera for people who want to photograph landscapes, still lifes, and posed portraits. For candid shots of subjects in motion, it's not so great.

GREAT POCKET CAMERA GIVES BIG RESULTS
This is my second Canon SD camera. I buy them mainly for their size because I take them with me on horseback. I am also a professional photographer. If you know minimums about photography, this unit will deliver better than satisfactory results. For the most part, the AUTO mode will produce nice images. Just follow the rule of not shooting direcly into the sun. If you buy the unit, don't forget to enable the IMAGE STABILIZER function. I have never shot a blurry image. If you want to venture into some customized settings, you will need to switch the unit to the manual mode. Most of the settings in the auto mode cannot be changed. I use a fill in flash a lot in outdoor photography. When in the manual mode, you can choose flash auto, flash always on, flash always off. I also use the manual mode to set the ISO to 80. Last night I went to an indoor entertainment event in a nearly dark venue. My first few shots were pretty dark. I went into the manual mode and raised the EV to +2 and got some great shots. I highly recommend this camera.

Excellent versatile pocket sized camera
I bought this brown colored compact pocket sized camera to replace an older S300. I delighted in the compact size. It is truly a pocket sized gem. I used it extensively for quick shots. Extremely convenient but still capable of decent photos and good resolution. The image stabilization feature adds so much usefullness in a light small camera that for most email shots, I grab my SD1100 instead of my Nikon D3. Macro shots at max resolution can be cropped to yield very good images. I left it in the console of my car one day and also left the garage door up 6" or so to vent heat - and forgot to close it at night. The next morning, I found a thief (prob a young person) had crawled under the door and ransacked my car, stole my SD1100 and an iphone FM transmitter. I ordered a replacement SD1200 from Amazon. I'll just have to live with Grey color instead of the Brown I have grown so fond of.

I shot a video of an intense hailstorm and noticed that the zoom in movie mode degrades the image to the point of uselessness. The sound recording is very good for a camera smaller than a pack of cards. I would have bought another SD1100 but they are $100 more than the SD1200, so I ordered the SD1200.
