CoolPix - Not So Cool: Important Features Lacking
1. The camera does not have a direct viewfinder, relying only on the digital screen. Under the vast number of picture opportunities, the viewing a scene was totally (and I mean totally) useless and the picture taking was just guess work.
2. There is no way to preset the aperture opening for changing depth of field. this is really frustrating.
3. There is no way to preset the shutter speed which is just as frustrating.
If I could, I would return the camera for one that has the above features.
Frankly, I was surprised that Nikon would make a camera like this.

Impressive Megapixel Upgrade
It was time for an upgrade from my Kodak EasyShare Z7590, entirely for megapixels.Kodak Easyshare Z7590 5MP Digital Camera with 10x Optical Zoom
My requirements were an SLR body grip, macro, and ring style menu or dial navigation rather than a wheel on top of body. I can count on one hand the number of times I've adjusted f-stop and shutter speed since going digital so I had no qualms about an auto-only camera. I was and still am concerned by lack of viewfinder - will have to run outdoor full sun tests ASAP. If necessary I'll velcro on an oaktag hood similar to what I created for my Sony Mavica.
Raves
Display - Impressed by the detail visible on the screen alone
Timer - Glad it's accessible on the ring and not buried in a menu
Scene modes - More than on the Kodak and some useful additions
Auto off - Has ability to set amount of time before shutoff, though an interval between 5 and 30 minutes would be appreciated
Lens - More distortion on normal than at macro
Macro setting - incredibly close, less than an inch
Easy auto - Easy auto understood I wanted macro setting (but misjudged on other options)
Lighting setting - if you're willing to take the time to set this you'll probably never have to adjust tint with software
Cons
Body - I shoot one-handed and am used to changing settings on the fly with my thumb. I am constantly leaning on the L100's review button as I'm preparing to change settings. It's turned off by an easily accessible button, but it's still cutting into my shoot time. To access the controls with my thumb my knuckles are driven into the lens casing. (This is hard to get a feel for anywhere if the camera is attached to a security cable in a brick and mortar store.) Will be looking into some sticky-backed foam to build up the side grip and put a pad on the side of the lens.
Macro/Telephoto - would prefer a button for this, but macro is on the ring two clicks away
Flash - Have to flip it up by hand. If my fingers were a tad longer I could probably also do that with my index finger. Seems powerful, but there are a number of settings including white balance and exposure that should be able to decrease whiteouts.
Flash on macro - Depending on the angle you're shooting, you may get the lens shadow in your photo
Type of flash - Decide what you need beforehand. Scrolling through the choices from the ring means your portrait subject will have already moved. (Might be made up for in Sport mode.)
Lens cover - will only attach if camera is off. I like keeping the lens cap on to protect from bumps between shots.
Blurry photo complaint - I'm not seeing any unusual focus problems
Transcend card complaint - No problem using the bundled SDHC card (though my laptop is too old to recognize it - skip the bundle and buy an SDHC card that comes with a reader or be sure to add one (or two, one for the camera case and one for the laptop case) to your order
Rechargeable battery issue - not tested yet
Summary
Overall, if you're not picky this is still a great entry level camera at a great price. I stick with four stars. I don't mind customizations to get the feel of the camera right and the lack of dedicated function buttons may be overcome with familiarity.
(Though if I could upgrade my Kodak to 10MP...)

Its worth buying
I'm pretty satisfied with this product. Before buying this product,I read review about this camera ,that we can't use Rechargeable battery with this Nikon coolpix camera BUT I tried rechargeable battery and it DOES work nice with that as well.
So it's really nice camera, only thing is, it's flash light part doesn't come out automatically.

A very awful camera.
You think this is a good camera when you look at its features and it feels like everybody who gave it a bad review just didn't know how to use the camera. I played around with the camera a lot, read the manual, and the picture quality is just always bad no matter what you do. I think my phone camera and the cheapest digital camera can take better photos. Don't waste your money on this camera! 2010-01-30

Great Camera for Consumer use
This was a great buy for a christmas gift for my mother. She has been using a 35mm disposable camera every year, so this was a great replacement. Above and beyond anything she has ever had before.
The image quality isn't perfect, as far as having a HD quality picture (I relate to video work I do), but for a consumer camera, you can't go wrong with it. Really simple to use, it's small but has a large enough size that it doesn't get lost in your hands.
